Summer is coming. The city is changing and so am I. I've been trying to make a point lately of doing things that I feel would make me a better person. I'm trying to not be as narcissistic. I'm trying not to be as self-involved. I'm trying not to play with people's feelings and emotions anymore. I've realized that these are not my toys, I've realized that I was just as bad as, if not worse, than the people who have hurt me doing so in the past. I'm trying to pay attention to those that need it, the people that put a smile on my face, regardless of what mood I was in before I started talking to them. In doing so I'm taking my time away from the people that I feel don't deserve anything from me. I've become productive, instead of destructive. I've started trying to do little things for people, the type of things that they remember, and the type of things where I expect nothing in return. Kindness is not about keeping score. I've stopped looking so far into the future, and started living with what I have. I find myself being happier. I find myself making decisions, instead of being cold and indecisive. I find myself having more certianty than I have ever had before in my life. Ever.

Lately I've been doing a lot of nothing. I go to school, go to work, and hang out around my house. I guess lately I've just not felt much like socializing, and I have a hunch as to what triggered this behaviour, but I'm not going to disclose it. Lets just say it has something to do with a boy that I'll probably never ever call mine. During spells like these it seems like everything on TV is the most depressing stuff ever. Like, Grey's Anatomy has gotten all sad, Flashpoint tonight was sad, Criminal Minds has been sad. This is something that I don't want to admit to ever watching, but hell, even Hannah Montana lately has been depressing. (I have an 11 year old sister, okay!) It doesn't help that every song I listen to seems to ring with nostalgia, or that the other things that I used to do to make me happy just seem to be flat out boring lately. I need something in my life to spice things up, but that idea always seems to bring disaster. I've even had major problems sleeping lately. Not getting to sleep until 2 and waking up at 4 doesn't seem to have a good effect on my mood or outlook.

Maybe I'm just crazy.

So the other day I was having this conversation with my good friend Travis about the social structures of today and how casual sex and drinking ones self to oblivion and other things are no longer considered taboo in society and we got to talking about the past. I mentioned how I feel like I was born into the wrong generation, and how I want nothing more than to live in like, the 1930's when boys would pick girls up on dates and give them a flower and take them out to dinner or a dance and expect nothing more than a kiss on the cheek at the end of the night, and everyone was just so classy. Like how during the second world war, women were so fashion concious that when they were denied nylons due to nylon rationing (for it to be used as parachutes) they would tint their legs using either watered down gravy or tea and then draw a line down the back of their legs to imitate the nylon seam using an eyeliner pencil (these days girls are so stupid that they go out in skirts that provide a full view of their private area without even knowing that Nylon's are something more than the title of a magazine), or how clothing was also rationed so people had to make do with what they had, using hand me downs or sheets or old clothing to make new clothing. I know plenty of people who would throw a fit if they had to wear the same thing for more than a year without buying anything new. Travis got to talking about how like, in the 1940s the guys would just act like gentlemen but they would slick their hair back or whatever and everyone was just so cool. I really wish I lived back then. I think that society now is simply too rambunxious for how I wish to live. I'd much rather be part of a conforming society where everyone was very put together and proper and free from social and mental constrictions and they did what they had to without a big fuss.

Lately I've been suffering from a case of "boring". Tonight, I decided to attempt to curl my hair. Unfortunately, I don't think midnight was the best time for me to put my curlers in, because it resulted in some very poor placement, but it garnered some laughs among friends. Ignore my icky makeup-less face. Tommorrow I suppose I'll get up late, take these out, they'll look horrible, and I'll end up going to work looking a little bit less Dita-Von-Teese and a little bit more Bride-Of-Frankenstein, but that's okay. I suppose these things are expected of me.

Okay, so I don't know how many people out there have seen Hard Candy. I'm assuming not many, since most people look at me like I'm insane as soon as I say the name (and most of you who don't know what I'm talking about, Hard Candy is a term used by pedos regarding underage girls). Anyways, this is Ellen Page, one of my favourite actresses (and a Canadian at that, Bonus points!) in her pre-Juno indie-flick days. I keep getting different dates on this movie, but I believe that the year it was officially released would be 2006. On a budget less than a mill (which seems to be virtually unheard of lately) the filmmakers have managed to spin a delightfully twisted treat. Page stars as Haley, a fourteen year old, who hunts the hunters. I can't say much else without completely destroying the film for people, although I do have to voice my admiration for the filmmakers who managed to create a female (key term should be: Girl) character who shows no signs of weakness whatsoever. This is excellent. The entire film dialouge is pretty much attributable to Page herself, with a huge cast of like, 6 characters or something, if I counted properly. Sandra Oh also has a cameo in the movie.

So I suppose I should explain why in a moment of insanity I've posted pictures of a rose bush on my blog. Well, this is my new baby, and I love it. It cost me a whole $4.99 at Safeway, and it's simply devine. It just makes me happy, you know? And these days, I'll take all the happy that I can get. This is what has spawned my new found girly/grandma phase. Suddenly I've fallen in love with antique tea sets, floral print, knitting, and dresses all over again. Scary thought.

On the other hand, maybe this change is just what I need...

Going back to a point I made earlier: "I'll take all the happy I can get". It seems lately as if I'm being compressed from all around me. From my family to my friends, no one seems to be content these days. It's just more more more. I don't get why people can't just be happy with what they have. It's like chasing an impossible dream. I'm sick of watching people run into themselves. Not only is it pointless, but it brings everyone else down. Just decide what you want, and go with it.

Septoplasty.

Sounds like something that involves death. In all honesty, if you know what it is it sounds just as scary as if you don't know what it is. Basically, a septoplasty involves the realignment of the septum inside the nose. This is often performed alongside a rhinoplasty for cosmetic purposes (see: nose job) but it is also done frequently in order to repair damage that had occured due to blunt trauma to the nasal area (by breaking your nose, or just a heavy blow). This blunt trauma often forces the delicate cartilige to misalign causing breathing problems which are often accompanied by other problems.
Now, this links to me in that I've broken my nose quite a few times, but I've always had huge breathing problems, so the other day I went to see a otolaryngoloist (see: nose and throat specialist) who could tell straight by looking at me that my nose was uneven. I've drawn a picture, which I will put up later.
The otolaryngolist has given me my perscription (or as I prefer to think of it, death sentance): septoplasty. Unfortunately I can't get a full septorhinoplasty because the shape of my nose means that fixing my nose would require a full exterior nose job, and not a partial one like most medical patients get, which would make it a cosmetic surgery, costing more than $3K, however if I was to just get the septoplasty It would be covered by healthcare. So now, on or before April 2nd I have to get knocked out and have them go up my nose, which apparently makes it bleed alot, because I've been reading up on it and sometimes in extreme cases they need to give blood transfusions.

Basically the point of this is, every time I think about this damn septoplasty I not only cringe, but feel queasy. And my nose hurts. I'm scared shitless.

So something's happened, and it's like, of epic fucking proportions. Like, this is big news.
I have my first hangover ever.
Well, at least, I think it's a hangover. I mean, I've never really had a hangover before, so I don't know exactly what one feels like, but I looked it up on WebMD and it sounds pretty much like me right now.
This is really weird. Considering how much I used to drink, and I never used to get hangovers. So I find it pretty fucking funny that the first time I drink legally I get a hangover. You know you're getting old when... (LOL!)
Anyways, I'm eighteen now. The thought is kind of weird. I'll let you know more when I figure that shit out.

Oh, and P.S, as anti-Julia of me this sounds, I'm going to admit right now that I like Tila Tequila and listen to her music quite a bit, and that I think this is a good song. It's really fucking catchy.

I haven’t written in a while, partially attributable to how busy I’ve been (but more about that later), but I thought I best get back to writing in here on a regular basis. I don’t know how things are going to go for pictures, but expect written updates from me at least twice a week.
It seems like lately life has been going really fast. This semester, for example, has passed by so fast that I cannot believe it. Like, if this was still high school, it would probably only be the beginning of November, maybe the middle if I got busy. But University is just so much work. It’s okay though, I’ve picked up on a lot of work habits that help me to get things done faster and still good. Also, I’ve quickly learned that procrastination is not a useful skill to have in University. Sitting up all night, literally not sleeping, to finish term papers is not fun. You can’t put a positive spin on it. Not one. You can’t just sit around thinking of what you have to do. You actually have to DO it. And you have to do it well. To those of you still in high school, BEWARE: Even the hard-assed teachers in high school mark easier than University professors and this might possibly be because the teachers in university don’t know your name, because it’s really hard when you have 3 classes of 200 people to remember all of their names.
I can’t seem to keep track of a lot of people and drama anymore, which I suppose is good for me. No matter how much I love drama I always somehow end up getting dragged into it and it just causes stress. I’ve never coped well with stress, though university is teaching me how to. If I come out of this with one new skill, it will be stress management.
Anyhow, more later about my recent life-developments and maybe a story about a wipe-out or two, because hells yes, Snowboarding season has officially arrived along with a couple of good snow storms.

My life is busy. School is busy. Work is busy. Production is busy. I have pictures coming out my ass but no time to post them. I have new aspirations in life, but am too busy to pursue them at the current moment. I am terrified I'm going to fall behind. I have an in-class essay next class that I'm terrified I'm going to fail. I'm sick. Ugh. I'm starting to resemble a zombie from a bad horror movie. You know, like the realistic looking zombies with red rings around their eyes and the dark bags and the colorless skin? Thats me. How attractive. To top it all off, all I do is consume sugar and I don't gain weight because I don't sleep. Hurrah for not sleeping.
New particular knowledge that I thirst for,
aka things I would like to learn:
Piano, French, Russian, Ukrainian, Greek, Latin, German, Polish, Photojournalism, Harmonica, Matrial Arts, How to cook things other than deserts, how to establish a multi-million dollar chain, a la Ikea.

Also, I'e basically decided that my new goal in life is to become a special operative who speaks 13 languages fluently, can hack top secret governmental files, and is trained to kill with my bare hands. I think that would be fucking awesome.

A History Lesson

So many of you that know me know that I am currently attending Drama school. Part of the requirements of this is to take a Drama History course, so here is an example of what I learn. Seriously, read it. You might know something. I tried to put the definitions to things in brackets if I've found a place where you would have no fucking idea what I'm talking about.

548 BCE: the Ionian City states (Asia Minor) came into contact with Persia, whose king was Darius. Darius totally kicked Asia Minor’s ass, and then the Athenians were like “NO!” so they burned the treasury to the ground and Darius was pretty pissed off, so Darius launched an attack on Greece starting with Eretria (a city on the shore), where he killed all the men, and enslaved the women. Athens heard about this and sent their fastest runner, Pheidippides to Sparta, and he ran 150 miles in 2 days to Sparta. Sparta was like “Yo, We’ll come, but we gotta wait until the next full moon cause we’re in some religious business”, and that wouldn’t have been for a week. So Pheidippides ran back to Athens to tell them. Then he died.
Miltiades (a general type dude) told the Athenians that Hippias (this guy whose dad was once king of Athens and then everyone hated Huppias so they kicked him out) was chillin’ with the Persians and he would become Tyrannos (aka evil dictator) if the Persians won so the Athenians were like “HELL NO”, and they went out and kicked the Persians ass during the battle of Marathon (490 BCE) even though the Persians had like, tons more dudes on their side, but the Athenian death tolls were in the hundreds, whereas the Persians were in the thousands (like 6400). By the time the Spartans arrived all that was happening was some parties so Sparta was like “Okay, what the hell. We’ll party with you, even though you won without us”.
There were these ships called tiremes, which were the idea-child of Themistocles who was all like “YO, ATHENIANS, You won the battle, not the war”. The Athenians put a shitload of money into this, but they were supah useful.
Then it was revealed that Themistocles was right and The Persians were persistent buggers. After they returned home from having their ass kicked Darius was totally assasinated because everyone was like "You fucking suck and now people are dead. Good job, no job", and his son Xerxes was like “HELL NO YOU DIDN’T”, and then he was like “I will totally have my revenge on Athens. They’re so going down”.
According to Herodotus (writer of The Histories- “To account for the great deeds of noble men.”), Xerxes got this huge ass army of 1 700 000 people, and the Athenians were shaking in their boots, so they sent a runner to Sparta, and he totally wasn't as fast as the last one, but thats okay, because the Athenians totally heard ahead of time and 1 million dudes DO NOT move fast, and King Leonidas of the Spartans sent out 300 mens to delay the Persians, and they ended up holding them off for 3 days by forcing them into a pass. Then King Leonidas was betrayed and the 300 men were pwned but they were seen as heroes and there's still a monumental type deal there thats all like "Spartans Died here, but they were epic and heroes, therefore they were epic heroes". Then the Spartan and the Athenian Army joined together to fight, and Xerxes got to Athens and kept it for about 3 weeks, but the entire navy was lured into Salamis (which is where Euripides, another tragis playwright, was born) and the Athenians picked off the entire navy 3 men at a time, which is pretty mocking. Then in 479 BCE at the Battle of Plataea the rest of the Persians were Pwned, and Athens were like “DAMN RIGHTS, WE OWN, SO GET THE FUCK OUT”. But people were still like “Athens, stfu and pay attention so that if the Persians try and kick some asses again you’re on their tail”.
Sparta and Athens totally just started a fight then because Sparta prided itself on its military (Remember 300, when they were all like "SPARRRTAAAAA"?) and Athens was like the little brother trying to copy them and be better. Persia was like “Yo, if we can’t pwn them with the Military we’ll just let Sparta and Athens duke it out and they'll pwn each other."
Athens was like “Yo, we betta watch out back for them Spartans, so lets build some walls” which was a huge issue with Sparta because they liked to be able to just waltz into wherever the hell they wanted without walls being some issues. The Spartans invited the Athenians over for some tea and it lasted two years until Themistocles was like “OKAY, this discussion is done and so are our walls. Pce.” Sparta was like “OUCH. You totally just slapped me in the face” and the Athenians were like “YAH. NOT SORRY.” The Athenians decided to go save some Polis' (aka Cities, because people didn't belong to a country, they belonged to a city) that were under the control of the Persians and then they got smart and told everyone “Holla. If you pay us money we’ll protect you.” Its like, World War I and the Sopranos all at once. Sparta got pissed and started making some leagues too. Then the Polis’ got all confused because everyone was like “JOIN US” and they didn’t know what to do with the Spartans and Athens, and then one day someone didn’t make up their mind, and both Athens and Sparta claimed it and then they started bickering and this lasted 431-401 BCE. The Persians were totally still lurking like “haha. Someone just die so we can PWN you peoples.”
While all these shenanigans were taking place the Theatre was still functioning and the different leagues were like “Hahaha. Come to Athens/Sparta. Look at us, we’re dancing!”
Then the womens of Athens and Sparta got sick of this shit, so they came together and were like “If you don’t stop fighting, you’re not going to get laid. LOL.”
We haven’t gone past this point in history in class, but I’m assuming that Sparta and Athens probs gave up, because I know from observing teenage boys and mens that when there is a threat of not getting laid, they’ll give up almost anything. Including grudges. But I’m not for sure because the only thing greater than a mans sexual desires is his pride. Which is a pain in the ass.

So, I've been going through a bit of a dilemma lately. Which isn't fair to me.
I guess I should begin from the start of these shenannigans...

See, lately things have been going really well for me, like, I'm just cruising, and seriously, The past three weeks or so I've been the happiest that I've been for a consistent length of time in a reallly long time.
You know what's been the greatest about being happy though?

The rest of them are too busy whining and shit about how terrible things are for them, and they expect me to listen. Normally, I'd be like, cool, I can listen, but the thing is I ALWAYS have to listen to them. No matter what mood they're in, but if I say one thing about myself I feel fucking guilty, or they critisise me or tell me to shut up or something. But the worst is the guilt trip. Like, "oh good for you, you're happy, who gives a fuck? my life is terrible and I don't want you to rub it in my face how happy you are."
So listen up fuckers,
I have a RIGHT to be happy. I've worked my ass off to get into University, I worked my ass off to get my job, I work my ass off to keep my emotions in-check, and I'm working my ass off to keep floating. What the fuck have you done? Gone and screwed around? Good for you. Now if you can't listen to me be happy then fuck you. Don't drag me into your drama, don't whine to me about the same thing for three weeks and expect me to stay sympathetic, don't don't DON'T. Okay?

HAH! So its the end of September, basically fall in Calgary, except for these damned heat spells that we keep getting, and fall makes me happy, because it means one other thing besides school:
FALL CLOTHES!
That's right. With this glorious season comes the brisk weather that is worthy of long sleeved shirts, sweaters, long pants, boots, tights, and other glorious things, and in Feburary the Fall 2008 runways of New York Fashion Week saw some of the best pieces that I have ever set my sights on. Ever. I want to gobble it all up. For real.
So starting...now, I'm going to start going through all of the saved pictures on my computer and putting them up, mostly so that I can point out to relatives "I want THIS THIS THIS AND THAT.", or so that you can do the same.

A lot of music is the result of the tragic death of originality, fame-moochers, Myspace hype bands and those who have sold their souls to shock tactics and pop music-- exactly why bands like the Cancer Bats ought to be appreciated due to their rarity.

"It's not like we felt that in any way we were given anything," says vocalist Liam Cormier. "We've worked really hard for this band and we've paid our dues and took the time to have this success."

Originally hailing from Toronto, Ontario, the group never imagined that they would be getting such a strong reaction from the scene in a city on the other side of the country.

"The first time that we played Calgary was probably one of the most epic times," Cormier says. "We played a hall show at a community centre. It was a record release show for a local Calgary band and it was amazing. The show was packed . . . it was the first time we played there and there was tons of kids singing along, even though our record [Birthing the Giant] had just come out. I remember just being like, 'Fuck, this show was amazing.' "

While these convention benders have certainly paid their dues, even through several lineup changes, progress has been anything but slow for them. In a short matter of time, they were back for another round on the Calgary circuit, but they had not come alone. This time they had come as an opening act for fellow Canadian band, and friends, Alexisonfire.

"We did our first tour and then we got offered our Alexis tour," Cormier recalls. "We actually had no idea that that was going to happen. We played two shows at MacEwan Hall, those were amazing. Those were some of the best shows of tour."

That experience is exactly why the boys have added a second Calgary show to their cross-Canada tour before they head off to the United Kingdom. Originally scheduled as a bar show, the second all-ages show was added after objections were voiced, courtesy of the Cancer Bats themselves.

"We got the offer to do the bar show and we were like, 'Okay cool. You know, that'll be great,' and then I was like, 'The only way that we're going to do this show is if we can do an all ages show in Calgary,' " explains Cormier. "Bar shows are cool, but everybody has to get wasted, which kind of sucks. At an all ages show, everybody's pumped to party like, right off the bat. Nobody has a chip on their shoulder. Nobody's going to be a dick. It's more just like, a real fun release and a fun show. We're super psyched to be coming out and I'm pretty sure it's going to be the best show of the tour. Those kids never let us down."

Simplicity has died. Nexopia has changed to version two, which has slowed it down to virtually snail paced, which means I will not be on there anymore. Thats stupid.
But from this comes a bright side. Me not using nexopia (or facebook, because I hate that too) means alot more time on my hands, which I can dedicate to this here blog. Which means you can expect daily updates and whatnot. I'm also getting my laptop (even though it didn't come in today :( LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO!!!), which means I'll be uploading alot more for photos and stuff, because I've come to assume that having my own system not slowed down by my sister's 83479384723 games that she DOESEN'T EVER PLAY will mean that I will
1) be able to get all of my shit onto there.
2) be able to get all of my shit on here faster.
It also means that I can do stuff from school and work.

But today I came across this article, which was about "body image". It was written by some sixteen year old girl and basically accused all people that are skinny of being "anorexic" and stated that all "models are airbrushed" and bitched about how you never ever see fuller girls, or even normal sized girls being promoted in the media, which is the biggest pile of bullshit I've ever heard. Seriously, just because you're a little bit bigger it doesen't give you the right to attack people who are thinner. You don't see me attacking you because you're curvy, do you?

Its actually quite funny. It was piled in a mountain probably comparable in size to what they consider to be "mountains" in Montreal when my co-worker came downstairs and gave me the weirdest look.

Argh. I am sooooo behind. I'm writing this to you from my glorious desk during my lunch break, for those of you wondering, and I'm getting Melba toast on my Keyboard, because I'm poor and all I can afford to eat is Melba Toast and apples because of my new found addiction to Vitamin Water. Actually, screw that. Melba Toast, Apples, and rice is all I eat anyways. No wonder I'm getting so fat.

Also, I'll be posting my Montreal Diary, which has gone the ways of my other travel dairies. Pretty much I wrote it for the first three days and then said Fuckit. Mostly because my internet was being a douche, pardon my french. Although if I was speaking French I'm pretty sure I just said that my internet was being soap or shampoo.
On the subject of French, I was totally stoked that most people in Quebec speak English, or at least try. I was kind of bummed though that I didn't get to say (And only because I pre-scripted it), "Je Comprend, mais je parles pas. Es-que tu parles ou comprend anglais?" Which, translated means "I understand you, but I don't speak French. Do you speak or understand English?", unless the laughter that they would emit after I said that which roughly translates to "You have hideous verb congrugation."
Oh yeah, I just tried to spell Congrugation. Thats worth like, eighteen points on the SATs I bet.
So, all in all, what I have learned about myself during my time in Quebec:
1. I can understand and read French, but I can't speak or write it. I also can't write in English half the time.

Well, no it isn't, but that'll all come with my Travel Diary, and my book, when it gets published...In December. Well, Hopefully in December. I guess if I don't keep putting it off and losing bits of it it will come in December.
